Deacon Dana Quarterly News Letter
March 2015
I can’t believe Kevin and I will be at St Aidan’s two years in May. It is true, time flies when you are having fun.  It has been great getting to know everyone and sharing our stories and lives together.
I know it has been a long cold winter, the snow seemed like it would never leave but I believe Spring is finally here. Now is the time that we look forward to, the time to get outside and enjoy the new life God is bringing forth all around us, let us share that new life with others. We have exciting outreach ministries this year to get involved with and take Christ’s light into the world.
We will be joining with the churches of Kings Grant outreach ministries for a workday, on Saturday, May 9th.  We will meet at Kings Grant Presbyterian Church that morning and then go out in the neighborhood from there. St Aidan’s will be working at Seton House next door and making casserole dishes in our kitchen to be delivered to those in need that afternoon. We will finish up back at Kings Grant Presbyterian Church with dinner and reflection on our day in the world as servants of Christ.
Kevin and I having been going over to King’s Grant Assisted Living every other Sunday at 1:00 to share Noonday Prayers and music with the Memory Unit and the Assisted Living Unit together. We are bringing Christ’s love to those that may be forgotten by some but not by Christ. Please join us at 1:00 and bring your light of Christ to shine where sometimes there is only loneliness and darkness. Our next scheduled dates are Easter Day, April 5th, and Sunday, April 19th.
May your journey into Spring bring you closer to God and the Light of Christ.

I am very happy to say that we at St Aidan’s have been very active out in the world this last year. Our focus has been on helping those less fortunate than ourselves in the local community and in downtown Norfolk with our Homeless Ministry. Our outreach ministries have given St Aidan’s new opportunities to reach out to those in need. I have listed below ministries that we have helped in and will continue into 2017 and everyone can get a chance to serve.

Our Homeless Ministry in downtown Norfolk has been a great blessing to our church over the last year. The homeless are so grateful every month when we hand them a clean pair of socks and now because of your continuing generosity we can also hand them hand sanitizers and body lotion. Your love and gracious giving is in return giving them hope and letting them know they are not alone and we care about them as we reach out as a beacon of light in the darkness.

The Homeless coat drive during the cold winter months was a great success, we had so many coats, hats, scarves, and gloves that it was like Christmas for our homeless guests we visited them in December, We go on the last Saturday of every month to feed the homeless and give them supplies.

We also make sandwiches on the third Sunday of every month that is then taken on Monday to the Catholic Worker’s office, who we work with, and they hand out our sandwiches to the Homeless on Tuesday morning.

During 2016 we also worked with a ministry in our neighborhood called Outside These Walls. We came together with the Presbyterian and Baptist churches in Kings Grant and went out into the neighborhood to help those in need around their homes. We also helped the Seton Girls and Boys Homes in the neighborhood with any need they had around their residences.

We have had a great year of being out in the world with others and sharing God’s blessings. We are His hands and feet in the world now and we need to do all we can to spread His love to others.

If anyone is interested in our Homeless Ministry or other ministries we are doing in the world for the less fortunate please talk to me at church or contact me by email. We need to listen for opportunities that God may be calling us to in 2017.
